With the advent of TV technology today, it is quite easy to forget the roots of all modern television sets, which is the CRT television set. CRT stands for cathode ray tube, which is the basic technology used in old television sets. Well, these TV sets are not really old per se. But with the many modern television sets out in the market, you cannot really help but think of the CRT TV as old. Nonetheless, the CRT sets are still very much reliable to this very day. In fact, there are still a lot of people out there who prefer CRT sets to the modern sets that you can buy today.
But why is this so? Why do people prefer to buy the CRT television over the modern sets today? One of the advantages of getting CRT TV can be summed up in just one word, and that is pricing. The CRT TV may be of old technology when compared to the modern ones out there. But its technology is not antiquated at all. In fact, the CRT TV is just as much as reliable as its modern competitors. And because the demand for CRT TVs is not that high anymore, plus the existence of more and more modern television sets, the price for these reliable TVs has also gone down. Thus, you would be able to garner huge savings when you purchase a CRT TV over the modern LCD or plasma TV. And the companies producing and developing modern TV sets should be thankful to the CRT TV inventor as well, because of it is still considered the basis of all TV modern technologies.
With the advantage of pricing aside, there is also the advantage of quality. This does not go to show that the modern TVs in the market today are not of high-end quality, because they indeed are. But it has been observed that the CRT TV lasts longer than its modern counterparts. Because of the technology of the CRT TV, its system has been made to withhold heavy usage. Not just heavy usage, but from excessive heat as well.
As for picture and sound quality, the CRT TV is not far from the modern TVs at all. When it comes to the illumination and contrast of the images, CRT TVs are still of superior quality. Plus, the saturation of the colors of the images is still very much ideal. This can be attributed to the fact that CRT TVs utilize phosphors and light beams. Both of these are very excellent projectors of colors. As a matter of fact, there is still a large number of CRT TV enthusiasts who claim that the CRT TV’s color is way better than that of the modern TV display systems, such as the LCD or the plasma TVs.
And what about the CRT monitor? CRT monitors are actually convex in shape, compared to the flat monitors LCD and plasma TV sets have. The flat monitors may look sleeker than the bulky, convex monitors of CRT TVs. But this convex shape is actually of better advantage. This is because the convex shape provides better viewing at wider angles. If you are positioned at an uncomfortable angle from the television screen, you would see more clearly if with a CRT monitor. If your set has a flat monitor, then you just might not get much a glimpse of what you are trying to watch.
But there are also certain disadvantages to the CRT TV. The obvious one being its size, since it is composed of bigger internal parts. With the size of the CRT TV comes the problem of space as well. The CRT TV inevitably occupies more space than the LCD and the plasma TVs. Plus, the largest size available for CRT TVs is just 40 inches. If you want to get a bigger set, you just cannot find a CRT TV that is bigger than 40 inches.
