Display Types

When you are considering which particular television set to purchase for your home entertainment system, you cannot help but consider a lot of factors. And of all these factors, you also cannot help but give more importance to the display types available in the market for your set.

In the olden days, it was so much easier to buy a television set. All you had to do was consider the price, the screen size, and the quality of the set you were going to buy. Back then, the television sets were pretty much the same. They were of the same size, and had the same quite primitive features. This is true in spite of the fact that there were already many television brands at the time. But now, progress has ironically made choosing television sets more difficult! With the many display types that you can choose from, the selection process can become very confusing and daunting. This is why before you go television hunting, you should be aware of the different display types of television sets already. This way, you will be more familiar with the features of the sets, even before you consider buying a particular kind from a particular brand.

So, what are the different television display types that are available in the market nowadays? The most familiar of these TV display technologies could very well be the CRT television sets. These sets are more known as the analog displays. CRT is actually an acronym for Cathode Ray Tube. The CRT television set does not really have a fixed pixel display. This is simply because at the time when CRT television sets were huge hits in the market, pixels were not really used in the transmitting of the images onto the screen. The images are actually made of horizontal lines on the screen. The mechanism of the CRT TV is the usage of a sealed vacuum tube and an electron gun. The electron gun is at the rear end of the set, while the sealed vacuum is at the front, just by the screen. The electron gun fires off electrons onto the screen, to make up the image. One obvious difference here is the size of CRT TVs. They were huge; this is a fact that just cannot be denied.

On the other hand, the modern digital display types, such as the Rear Projection and the Plasma/LCD displays, make use of pixels in the transmission of images onto the screen. The basic concept here is that the more pixels used in the image, the clearer the image will be.

Rear Projection TV, or RPTV, take up less room than the CRT TV. In this alone, the RPTV is more convenient to use already. Plus, they have very large screens to begin with! The RPTV actually projects the picture onto a mirror in its system, which is then reflected right back onto the monitor or screen. With this technology, you can actually let go of the need for cabinet space. And you have a choice of getting an analog or digital RPTV as well. Distinguishing these entails the projection method being used by the system.

And then come the Plasma/LCD TV displays. Now, these displays are actually the most preferred by a lot of customers worldwide. These displays are so sleek that you just can’t help but stare at these beauties. You can even choose to mount your set on the wall! These displays can really enhance the viewing experience of people worldwide. Images are produced with the passing of a light source through cells that are made of layers of glass. Between these two layers of glass is neon-xenon gas, which is used in creating a plasma state in the system. This system enables the images and the audio signals produced to be of clear and vivid quality.
